Compliance Packing

Medico Pak is a simple way of managing your regular medication. Your daily medication schedule is personalised by our pharmacist and ensures you take the right Medicine and the right Dose at the right Time. 

It is perfect  if you:

  • have a long term chronic condition requiring ongoing complex medication     
  • are on holiday,  travelling or constantly on the move       
  • are on multiple medications or a difficult dosage schedule
  • are a nurse or caregiver who needs a system you can trust

Medicine Text Reminder Service 

Do you sometimes forget you have repeats on your medication to pick up? We get so busy that often we may not realise we've forgotten to pick up a medication repeat until we run out. It can also be frustrating to go along to pick up your medicines to find that you need to get another prescription from the Doctor. Enrol in our pharmacy text reminder service and we will remind you via text if you have repeat medication due  and ask if you wish us to dispense it all ready for collection or delivery. Through this service, we'll send you a reminder that you are due to collect your medicine and we can also let you know when you will need to see your Doctor for a prescription before you run out of your medication. This great service is FREE to you and is easy to sign up to. Visit us instore to sign up.

Vaccinations — Flu, Whooping Cough, Shingles & Meningococcal

We offer a number of vaccinations at Southend Pharmacy to protect you and your family/whanau. The best protection from influenza is an annual flu vaccine. If you currently pay for you vaccine and are between the ages of 13 and 65 we have trained pharmacists to administer the flu vaccine. For pregnant women and  patients over 65  there is no charge for your vaccination.  For employers we can also provide vaccinations to your eligible employees . Please note: Some vaccinations may need to be specifically ordered.

Morning After Pill (ECP)

Contraceptive Failure or having unprotected sex can be stressful. The risk of pregnancy can be reduced by taking the emergency contraceptive pill. The sooner the emergency contraceptive pill is taken the more effective it is.  As getting to the Doctor is not always possible or practical our accredited ECP pharmacists are available to provide you with a consultation and are able to dispense the ECP if it is appropriate for you. 

The ECP’s effectiveness

The emergency contraceptive pill will be most effective if you take it as soon as possible after unprotected sex. Taking the ECP within 24 hours is best, but it can prevent pregnancy if taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. It’s important to note that the ECP does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).  

Possible side effects

You may experience the following side effects but they should resolve within a few days: Breast tenderness, Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Tiredness, Vomiting. If vomiting occurs within three hours of taking the ECP, another dose should be taken immediately.

Warfarin Monitoring Service  

At  Southend Pharmacy we offer a Warfarin Monitoring Service. In a private area , our trained pharmacist will take a small finger prick blood sample , process it through a specialised machine, discuss the result  and possible dose changes of Warfarin. A result will also be sent to your Dr.Please speak to your Doctor if you would like to be referred to  Southend Pharmacy for your Warfarin Monitoring Service.

Erectile Dysfunction Medication 

Erectile Dysfunction is a common issue that affects many men over the age of 40. It can present itself as either a total inability to achieve an erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. All of our pharmacists have successfully completed the approved training programme which allows the supply of Sildenafil for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men aged 35–70 years.  No appointment or prescription is necessary, a quick consultation will ensure that this medication is appropriate for you.

Treatment for Urinary Tract Infection    

If you have symptoms of a urinary tract infection, do not delay getting checked and starting a suitable treatment. If a UTI isn’t treated correctly the infection can spread to the kidneys and become more serious. If you meet certain criteria our trained pharmacist can give you an antibiotic called Trimethoprim, without a prescription. In the privacy of a consult room they will  ask you a few questions to see if Trimethoprim is appropriate for you or recommend that you visit your doctor. No appointment is required.

Urinary alkalisers

Urinary alkalisers can provide relief from the painful burning symptoms of a UTI. Check with our  Pharmacist before using any product as it may interact with other medicines you are taking. 

Other tips

Rest and keep warm – place a hot water bottle or wheat bag on your stomach to help with the pain, Drink as much water as you can to help flush the bacteria out of your urinary tract, Pass urine in the shower or pour water over the area while you urinate – this may reduce the discomfort, Take a pain reliever if necessary, Avoid alcohol, fruit juices, strong coffee, or fizzy drinks as they can make your urine more acidic.

Smoking Cessation 

Have you thought about giving up smoking? Becoming smoke free is the best thing you can do for your health, and could also make a big difference to your wallet! At Southend Pharmacy, our trained pharmacists can work with you to decide on what stop smoking options are best for you and prescribe patches, lozenges or gum. If you wish, we can  refer you to a smoking referral service that  help supports your smoking cessation journey  in a way that will work for your lifestyle.

Triton Hearing Test 

Do you sometimes think you are missing out on what is being said around you? At Southend Pharmacy you can come in at any time and take a free hearing test. The Triton Hearing Stations provide a convenient way to check your hearing, and should any hearing loss be detected, a Triton Hearing Customer Services Champion will get in contact with you to arrange a follow up appointment.

Selective Contraceptive Dispensing 

Our trained pharmacists can sell up to six months supply of a selected contraceptive if you have been prescribed the same type of oral contraceptive within the last 3 years  and have not developed any risk factors. A private consultation with the pharmacist is required.

Our pharmacy team will talk you through the process and give you some key information to take away on caring for your ears and piercing.
